William Alexander Sinclair enlisted on the 25th August 1914, stating his age as 19 years and 246 days old, and his occupation as a fitter. He was 5 feet 9 inches in height, weighed 136 pounds, had a light complexion, blue eyes and fair hair. His next of kin was his father, Donald, of Mercaston, Brailsford, Derbyshire. He was posted to Egypt on the 19th July 1915, then to Gallipoli, being promoted to Corporal on the 30th September. He reported sick at Gallipoli on the 11th October, rejoining on the 17th. He then reported sick again on the 19th, rejoining on the 27th. He reported sick for a third time on the 4th November, rejoining on the 11th. At Alexandria on the 3rd March 1916, he was severely reprimanded for irregular conduct on parade. On the 9th May he was admitted to hospital in Egypt with a cut tendon on the index finger of his right hand, which kept him in hospital until the 27th. On the 23rd November 1916, he was transferred to the 20th Prisoner of War Company, before joining the Army Cyclist Corps in France on the 16th March 1917. He was killed in action on the 10th April the same year.
